Wallpaper design & workshops, Dargavel Primary School

What I did: Project pitch, workshop planning and delivery with P2-P6 pupil at the school, wallpaper design & vector illustration.

What the client needed

Dargavel Primary School was looking for artists to design wall artwork to be printed on the cloakroom, classrooms, quiet spaces and exterior of their new classroom units. The artworks should be inspired by the students themselves through engaging creative workshops.

The artwork should be based on the school’s philosophy of kindness, respect, acceptance & growth.

My part of the project

Dargavel Primary approached me and the artist Finni Porter Chambers to run workshops with Dargavel Primary students. We secured the contract after successful pitches to the students at the Glasgow School of Art with our project proposals.

My role in the project was to design the cloakroom and the external signs while Finni designed the classroom and quiet space. My workshops were all about exploring how the pupils saw their natural surroundings at Bishopton so that I could sample their drawings within my design. I wanted to make sure that the kids could see their own designs within the wallpaper to give them ownership of the space.

Part of the project was also working with a diverse range to stakeholders including the school leadership, students themselves, GSA who co-funded the workshops and the local council who funded the project.
