During downtime, I like to develop my practice with small personal projects. This allows me to play with my style more freely and advance the skills I can offer. This personal project plays with the ridiculous and funny side of gardening. Within these illustrations, I wanted to explore the passion for my green patch.
The angry eye illustration to the right is one of my favourite recent works. It perfectly captures my despair when I found that slugs were eating my seedlings. I wanted to add something a bit ridiculous and funny to gardening, as well as playing with textures, subtle colours and pattern.
Below is a dense and lively grass scene featuring a snail being rehomed (in the local park). This artwork took 8h. of observing my garden closely for different grasses and plants. Luckily, I was in the middle of Scotlands two-week summer.
Last but not least, is a chicken taking a mud bath in the rosebed.
